Types of outdoor advertising boards: pole billboards, wall billboards, LED screens, light boxes, bus shelters

Five types make up almost all of the 2,708 boards on WikiOOH. Each suits a different goal: reach on main roads, presence at junctions, changing content or walking areas.

LED screen at Nội Bài Airport

On WikiOOH the 2,708 boards divide by type: 1,274 wall billboards, 1,118 pole billboards, 167 light boxes, 120 LED screens, 18 bus shelters and a few others.

Pole billboards

Large boards on one or more steel poles, usually beside national highways, expressways, ring roads and city gateways. Good for: wide reach, people in cars and coaches, long campaigns. Keep in mind: large-format printing and work at height cost more; the board takes longer to go up.

Wall billboards

Boards fixed to the wall or roof of a building, usually at junctions, bridge approaches and main city streets. Good for: brand presence in the centre, close to the point of sale. The most common type in Hồ Chí Minh City and Hà Nội.

LED screens

Sold by airtime (seconds per spot, spots per hour) rather than the whole face. Good for: short campaigns, product launches, content that changes by the hour, video. Keep in mind: some screens list a price per hour of airtime, which is not added to the monthly rent of static boards.

Light boxes

Boxes lit from inside, smaller, usually on pavements and in shopping centres and stations. Good for: walking areas, near the point of sale, mid-size budgets.

Bus shelters

Advertising faces on bus shelters, at eye level for people walking and waiting. Good for: covering a street, a low cost per location, campaigns with many points.

How to choose

  1. Start from the people you want to reach and the places they pass every day.
  2. Combine: a few large pole billboards for reach, plus smaller boards near the point of sale as a reminder.
  3. Compare on the map: filter by board type, size and height — see the board map.
